A Taste of Baghdad
By Amanda Eckerson
on March 27, 2012
DarSalam (2921 NE Alberta) is the newest addition to the Alberta food scene—and a welcome addition it is. What started last year as the Aladdin Castle food cart on Division, has morphed into a partnership between two lifelong friends from Baghdad who reunited in the United States after emigrating separately from Iraq. The former Suzette Crêperie has been transformed into a virtual trip to Iraq, with photographs and cultural artifacts from the historic Iraqi and Sumerian Empire. It is a visual as well as sensual experience: try their famous chickpea stew with basmati rice, or their pickled mango and tomato salad. Contact them at 503-206-6148.
